2-7 Triple Draw Poker
January 5, 2010
2-7 Triple Draw poker is becoming a very popular poker game in 2010. You can find this game at several online poker rooms but only Pokerstars offers decent traffic. There are two ways you can play 2-7 Triple Draw at Pokerstars. One is by playing at the standard ring tables, sitngos and tournaments. The traffic at these tables has grown over 200% in the last year alone. The other way to play 2-7 Triple Draw is to play 8-Game Mix, a mixed poker game like HORSE poker.
I consider 27 Triple Draw to be the weak spot in many 8-Game Mix player’s armor. They simply do not know how to play this game properly. Their 2-7 Triple Draw strategy is terrible and you can exploit it if you put some effort and time into mastering Triple Draw poker.
The first major lesson is hand selection in 2-7 Triple Draw. I’m actually getting a little ahead of myself, some of you may not know the 2-7 Triple Draw rules.
2-7 Triple Draw is a mix between 5 card draw and badugi. You want the lowest hand and straight and flushes count as high. Aces are also always high so never keep those. There are three drawing periods in this game.
I usually advise people to only play hands with 3-5 cards that are 8 or less. The typical “winning hand” in 2-7 Triple Draw ranges from 7-10 high so there is a lot of room for bluffing.
