The Best Texas Hold’em Strategy Guide

Texas Hold’em isn’t my game of choice but I’ll play it every now and then. I almost always play in the fixed limit format, no limit Hold’em is just too crazy for me. I also prefer tables with 3-6 players as I hate how tedious a full ring table can be. There are many solid resources for Texas Hold’em strategy on the web but www.ThePokerBank.com is one of my favorites. This site features hundreds of Texas Hold’em related articles.  The strategy articles are not the typical textbook re-writes most poker portals offer. They are divided up into different skill levels so you’ll be able to acquire strategic knowledge in the proper order. Most poker strategy sites I’ve been to do not distinguish between beginner, intermediate and advanced articles, The Poker Bank does.

I opened the website with a flourish. It was my lucky day, I felt, and I wasn’t going to waste it.

The screen lay out before me. The table in the center – nearly filled with other players. This was only my third or fourth time playing, but I had been enjoying it so far. I’d open up a tiny little window and be transported into a high stakes game. Sure, I mostly played for pride or a couple dollars at best. I thought that this day would be different, though. Maybe I could get enough to take friends out to dinner.

The first round was passed out. I was playing Texas Hold ‘Em poker, something based more on luck than just regular poker. Blinds went up, and the table was off. Two cards flashed on my screen. They were nothing fancy, nothing that had a good chance of bringing me the pot - two of Spades and a lonely Jack of Diamonds. The flop wasn’t much better. Sure, the Ace of Spades showed up to match with my two, but that wouldn’t win. A turn and a river later, and I was down a few chips. A little slow to start, maybe, but I still had that feeling.

The next few rounds failed to back up my lucky feeling. I felt more like Mr. Mudd than Mr. Gold at this point. But even at the end of the song, Mr. Mudd gets his. I just had to play one more round.

Now, it’s always bothered me that I can’t see faces in online poker. There’s no tell – no subtle twitch of the face to let me know when a man or woman is bluffing. I’m betting and tossing around cards in front of a faceless computer screen. I guess that’s good in some ways, at least no one will see my tells.

I promised myself that this would be my last round. The table had been full at ten and we’d only lost a player in the past hour or so. People had a yen for a big win, but so far the winnings had been spread evenly.

My two cards flash on screen. That Jack of Diamonds again and Ace of Diamonds. I swore under my breath. An inside straight would have to support my lucky feeling. Nothing to do but play. Bets flew and the cards flopped. My heart almost stopped when I saw the King of Diamonds joined by a couple clubs. I was so close, but I didn’t like my odds. No good player would. But I strove on.

The Queen of Diamonds was the most beautiful turn I had ever seen. After her card fell I stopped breathing. All the dealer had to do was show a ten and my day was won.

I thought my computer had frozen; it took so long for that card. The first thing I saw was the 10 in simple script. My heart beat raced as my eyes searched for a color or shape. The red diamond winked at me from the screen. I had beaten the odds and everyone on the table.

Well, it was a nerve wracking round, but I pulled in enough to take a couple buddies out for the night. Every once and a while, I get that urge to play a little poker online again, that lucky feeling. Worth following, sometimes, if you ask me.

No Download - Instant Poker Sites

A buddy of mine recently launched a informational website about instant poker sites. These rooms do not require users to download any software. I’m sure you can imagine how this could be very useful. Playing poker in your browser comes with several benefits. Let’s say you want to play online poker but do not want everyone to know. Having a shortcut on your desktop and/or programs list is a dead giveaway. Sure, it would be easy to just delete the shortcuts but there is no way to hide the software completely. 5 Card Draw Rules

Back in the early days five card poker was the most popular poker game played in America and it has remained popular until today. The game is not played at the live casinos or tournaments but it remains a popular choice for recreational home games and it is very suitable for the beginners. If you need to know how to play poker, then 5 card draw would be the game to get you started. This poker variant is very easy to understand as compared to other poker variants. Players will also be able to make use of the skills and strategies of this game in other poker variants. Here are the 5 Card Draw rules:

How To Play 5 Card Draw

Each player makes a small fee called the ante and this is placed in the pot. After the ante, each player is given 5 cards faced down and the betting interval commences. The betting interval kicks off with the player left to the dealer button and the game play proceeds in a clockwise direction. The player is able to bet, pass or fold his or her hand. If any player makes a bet the other players will now have to call, raise or fold their hand. The betting interval ends when all players have made their bets, if all players fold or pass their hands they will be dealt with a new hand and the ante remain in the pot for the next hand.  Please read our 5 Card Draw strategy article for tips on how to play draw poker better.

After the first betting interval, players are given the option to draw all their cards so as to improve their hand. Players are dealt with replacement cards, faced down, and the dealer deals the cards in a clockwise direction from the player left to the dealer button. All players should have five cards and the second betting interval commences as soon as all players make a draw and the player left to the dealer button starts game play.

During the second betting interval, if there is one player remaining in the game s/he wins the pot but if 2 or more people remain in the game players would have to show their cards and this is know as the show down.

During the show down, if players have got the same cards, the pot will be awarded to the player with the highest hand. For example, a pair or jacks is beaten by a pair of kings and so on. If people have the same pair such as a pair of 2s then the pot is awarded to the player with the highest kicker at which a kicker is the other card which is not part of the pair.

When we play poker we concentrate and we forget about the long run and it is not necessary to understand this at the first level. I don’t know about you but when I hear the word poker, the things that get into my head are money, strategies and bluffing. Let’s focus on those last 2 that I just mentioned. Now, weird as it may sound but studying winning strategies for poker is very complex, you got to have experience in doing so. Given that you already know the basics of poker let me lay down some quick poker winning strategies. For this one you got to have a good memory and well, analytical skills. One of the oldest and very effective winning strategies for poker is “mind reading”, not as easy as it sounds but it’s possible. You might be saying that mind reading is hoax and well of course it is, that’s why i had two quotation marks on what we have above. “Mind reading” is a poker winning strategy that is actually a composition of experience with people, probability, and memory.

Poker is a game of chance, you get Two Kings at early game that’s good (most people would say). Obviously, for pairs the only one that can beat your hand would be two aces. But this is poker, you might get a full house, a straight, 2 pairs, or even a royal flush. Now try to analyze, which of those has the highest possibility? Try to analyze your opponents chance of winning.

If you notice your opponent is the type of player that loves to bluff but always keeps a stone cold face? Note that down. That kind of player which likes playing it safe and doesn’t raise the bet, if he’s not sure he’s going to win, is a player who shows emotions. If you remember every aspect of how your opponent behaves, sure you may lose for an hour or so. They just wait, because after that you’ll own the table.

Beyond the extent of normal poker, how can you beat the game with the use of probability? How many percent of winning do you have on winning at a table of six players? Answer is 16%, now what if you have someone, a friend that can player one of those six players? You have 32 percent. Correct? Now this type of strategy is very experimental and prohibited on some areas, but it’s a good way to raise your probability of winning. This technique is very complex, hard to master and it almost crosses the line of possibility, but having an added 16% to your chance of winning? Well, it’s just simple math. I know a few people who have done this who came home and had three folds of what they had when they left.

However you look at the poker, at any other game, it’s just simple math. Never let your emotions get a hold of you instead, look at it in a logical way.
